When the Ledger counts you at fourteen, it decides what you are. Doran got one word: Static. Permanent Level 1. In a world where power is measured in Levels and a stuck account means a wasted life, Static is the worst thing a person can be.
So Doran does what the Ledger never anticipated. Every healer in the world hits a ceiling, the point where the spell reaches its limit and the excess mana evaporates as waste. Doran’s Heal has no ceiling. The overflow crystallises into something permanent, something the Ledger can’t quite account for, and every patient he treats makes him fractionally, irreversibly stronger.
He can’t level. He can grow. And the gap between those two things is the largest number nobody can see.
When monsters with impossible suppression fields start moving through the Reach’s eastern hill country in organised columns, Doran is a shrine healer in a village nobody has heard of, with a grimoire that says Level 1 and an attribute sheet that says something else entirely. The war is coming whether he is ready or not.
